Manufacturers, Distributors and Dealers: Ohh My!

Where is the customer in that equation? Shit out of luck if you are trying to find parts when your scooter breaks down.

Well, I'm no rocket scientist (well almost) but there is something really wrong with the supply chain. I chose to buy a modern scooter for a couple reasons:

They are built using modern parts and are more reliable.
-
They can be de-restricted in order to reach speeds in excess of 55 mph.
-
Parts are more readily available when they break down.
But I guess two out of three ain't bad. My scooter has been in the shop now for over 3 weeks waiting on parts. The shop uses one of the only two distributors in the USA, cycle imports. Since it had been three long weeks, I decided to call them directly and see where these parts were. My answer: "probably on a ship coming from spain" and "You should have your parts in 3 to 4 more weeks".
WHAT THE F**K KIND OF ANSWER IS THAT!
We have things called "Planes" now, which can get your parts here overnight if need be. And since you are a distributor, shouldn't you have common parts in stock, ready to be shipped to dealers across the US?
I'm not sure what upsets me more; waiting for my bike to be fixed, or the fact that my scooter riding record has come to an end. Until this point I had ridden faithfully every day rain or shine or even snow.

Dude, I can understand your disappointment in the parts delay. That sucks. Being the helpful dude that I am I decided to contact my dealer to see if he could help. He's gone! The f**kin store is closed! Two months after I buy my brand new Derbi and my dealer folds up shop. What a bunch of crap. I was just about to get the 12hp kit hook up and oil change service. Guess I'm SOL now.

I feel your pain. Seems Derbi isn't the only manufacturer who has this problem... Malaguti has the same problem. Wouldn't be suprised if most of the dealers drop them. What good is a scooter if you can't get parts to fix it when it breaks down.
