I bought a brandy new GP1 last month. Took my time with an initial break in.... short, frequent skoots. At the 50 mile mark, I rode it into town and back, about 9 mi each way. On the way back, it began to make a grinding noise., and I coasted the final mile home.
Upon investigation, I found the gear case empty! No oil.
The dealer and DerbiWest were absolutely GREAT, and I now have another NEW GP1. I cannot praise them enough in how they handled it. They found that the bearings had disintegrated, the shafting was scored and the casing was damaged. Fortinately, nothing seized in a way that could have thrown me.
It appears as if the skoot arrived at the dealership dry. It's not an item they have had to check in the past, as they should come from the factory with a full charge of gearcase oil.
If you are buying any skooter, my advice would be to check the gearcase oil. My dealer now does on every make and model they receive....
