Boulevard 150 starts, dies on acceleration

While riding my 2003 Boulevard 150 home from work the throttle cable broke. I pushed and coasted all the way home. Whew! After much tribulation I found a new cable and put it on the scooter. NOW, I have a new problem. The scooter starts okay, but when I give it gas it dies. Sometimes I can keep it going by feathering the throttle, but then it just jerks along down the street until it dies.
I tried a new spark plug, but no change. I tested the fuel pump, it is working fine. I even tried recalibrating the immobilizer, but still no change.
Any ideas? I am at wits end.
