Thoughts on Buying 2001 Predator

Guys,
Looking to buy a 2001 Predator for $600. Owner says it needs a new variator, has 549 mi, and a few scratches. Any concerns with this model or the variator replacement costs. new to scooters so I'm not familar with any issues. Any and all advise is appreciated.
