blown gp1 w/metrakit big bore kit

I just received word from my mechanic at derbi in miami that I stuck my gp1. I have the metrakit big bore kit. My bike has about 4000 miles on it and only 2000 of those with the bb kit. Has anyone heard of a gp1 sticking with such low mileage? and also should I get a new metrakit big bore kit or go for another manufacturer?
