Considering a Derbi Atlantis vs. Kymco People 50

Hi. I am quite new to the Scooter world (thought I had an Elite 50 as a teenager).

I am considering a Derbi Atlantis (or Atlantis Wave) and a Kymco People 50.

Can somebody please help me with the practical differences (besides the thin wheel on the People 50). I am using for getting around Chicago. Acceleration and speed are a concern as a friend has a Vespa ET4 and I want to be sure to keep up.

I would also note that I can get a new 2002 or 2003 Atlantis or Atlantis Wave for a much better price than the Kymco 50.

Finally what's the real difference between an Atlantis and Atlantis Wave.

I am 5'7" 165 lbs and want to be able to have my girlfriend on the back.
