Although not new to the scooter biz, Peugeot Motocycles is creating quite a stir with their new models available in the USA.

JetForce

Peugeot JetForce 50 - 125 -150
The JetForce is nothing less than a vision into the future of motorscooters over the next decade. I'm stumbling just trying to capture what Peugeot has done here. Earthshattering. Groundbreaking. Not for the timid.

Truly a step beyond what anyone has expected except in that occasional discussion with friends about what an exotic motorscooter would include. The details keep flowing in but here is what we know so far:
  • Three models: 50cc, 125cc and 150cc
  • 50cc 2-stroke, 125 and 150cc 4-stroke
  • All fuel-injected, liquid-cooled single cylinder
  • The 125 and 150cc will be available with a supercharger (compressor)
  • Potentially over 25hp for 150cc version
  • Alloy perimeter frame with integrated fuel tank
  • Centralized rear shock
  • Synchronized ABS (Anti-lock Braking System)
  • 13" diameter front and rear alloy wheels

The winner of the 2002 Motorcycle Design Association award in the scooter category usually forbodes other awards to follow. This will certainly have the award of my purchase. For Peugeot, it appears that history is about to repeat itself. You can bet importers of other brands will be fighting its arrival every step of the way.

Elystar

Peugeot Elystar (with top)
The Elystar is the new flagship for Peugeot. Featuring class leading technologies such as extremely efficient fuel-injected 50 and 150cc engines, synchronized braking, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) (150cc only), ADT Immobilizer and Boa Lock security, large trunk, extraordinary wind protection, as well as an optional detachable roof (available 1Q 2003) for all weather riding.

The fuel-injected engines provide outstanding cold starting and return >120 and >75 mpg for the 50cc and 150cc engines, respectively, decrease emissios of CO, while improving throttle response and overall performance. Engine adjustment is now software controlled minimizing many functions that were previously manual saving time and money.

Peugeot Elystar (without top)
This motorscooter is causing a stir globally as Peugeot challenges BMWs C1 and the Benelli Adiva abroad, neither of which are available stateside. While it is an extremely comfortable motorscooter for taller riders (6 feet plus), its size is not ridiculous retaining the agility of a true motorscooter unlike so many other 'maxi' scooters being introduced in the US.
