Derbi Atlantis Resurrection

Top level Scoot Culture

After getting hit by and S-10 Blazer I took on the project of rebuilding my Derbi Atlantis scooter rather than buying a new one.

It was an ordinary wednesday afternoon. The sun was shinning, the birds were singing, my stereo was rocking and I was cruising home for lunch on my scooter.

I use my scooter as my primary transportation for commuting back and forth from work, running errans, or even going to the local bars for "open mike nights" with my guitar and amplifier strapped to my bike. On this particular day I was on my way home from work to eat lunch when I became the victim of a bad driver.

I was following behind an S-10 Blazer when it suddenly came to a stop in the middle of the road. I looked at the driver wondering what he was going to do next when suddenly I saw his reverse lights come on, and before I could do anything the truck was coming at me. Next thing I know I was being pushed backward and was then thrown from the bike (and clear of the truck luckily) as the truck began to drive over my bike. To make a long story short my repair estimate came to 1,860.90 classifiying the bike as totalled.

Most the the damage was cosmetic and I decided to buy the essential parts and repair it myself. I bought the bike back from the insurance company for $375.00 and got $2,500.00 to use for repairs. I bought a new fender, front fairring, headlight and straightened the forks. I also decided to buy a windshield and the Metrakit SP Exhast kit (new exhast pipe & roller weights).

I am still playing around with tunning it just right but when I get it right I plan to post a full article about it in the Maintainence area of this website.
