The Birth of a Scooter Club

Top level Scooter Related News

It all began a few months ago with an idea to bring "scootering" back into the mainstream. "What New Hampshire needs is a scooter club", I thought to myself. After this past Sunday's ride, it is evident that the club will be growing quickly.

It was a perfect day. The sun was shining, the temperature was about 85, and my newly installed stereo was pumping out the tunes. I pulled into the Naults Honda parking lot around 10:55am and there were already two riders waiting.

They were Jeff Lamy and Dan Patty of Bedford riding modified Honda scooters. One of the scooters was upholstered in leapord fur and looked pretty cool. After waiting for about 10 minutes we decided that no one else was going to show, and left on our ride.

We travelled all over downtown Manchester, attracting alot of attention as we cruised the streets of Manchester at 25-30MPH. During our travels we met up with another scooter owner who had a modifed scooter painted to look like the "Ghostbusters" mobile, complete with a "Ecto-Horn" that was as loud as a "Mack Truck". Unfortunately he was working, and could ride but assured us that he would make an effort to ride with us in the near future.

After a few hours of riding, we headed out to Bedford, making a short stop on Manchester's west side. Jeff knew a scooter owner and we stopped in to check out the scoots. He had two modified Honda scooters that looked great. One was painted in a blue metallic with a Diamond Plate footrest, a Mack Truck Bulldog over the rear brakelight, a Polished swing-arm and clear lense covers. Real Nice. The other was painted in a dark orange and was also pretty nice.

He knew a few others that were interested and planned to ride next Sunday. There was also talks about scooter racing and a large empty parking lot. Sounds like it could be alot of fun. We thanked him for letting us come and check out his scooters and got back on the road heading to Jeff's house in Bedford.

When we got to Jeff's house, Jeff took out his 1964 Vespa (which needed some work to get back on the road) and we all sat around talking about the next big ride.

Although the turn-out for the first ride was small we had a great time and look foward to the day when we have 10 or 20 scooters riding together.
